Scott Flowers

Mr. Flowers holds a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge in Music Education.  He began his career in education as an elementary music teacher in Brevard County, Florida. Prior to accepting the position as Executive Director of Polk Acceleration Academies, Mr. Flowers served as the Chief Academic Officer and Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Allendale County Schools in South Carolina.

From June of 2009 to June of 2011, Mr. Flowers served as the Executive Director of Secondary Programs and Vice President of Education Services for a national educational management organization. Mr. Flowers has supported and mentored k-12 principals and supervised regional education teams at fully managed charter schools and in urban and rural district turnaround models. In addition, Mr. Flowers developed and implemented a college success program designed to engage students, parents, high school faculty and staff in the college going and career success process.

As the principal at Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Flowers partnered with the College Board on a turnaround project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The EXCELerator program was designed to dramatically increase the graduation rate as well as increase the number and diversity of students who enroll in and are successful in college.

In his tenure as principal at Christiana High School in Newark, Delaware, Mr. Flowers dramatically changed the climate of the school and developed an effective learning environment by establishing a culture of high expectations with students and staff. In addition, he reorganized the school into wall-to-wall small learning communities.  Based on data and student interest, students chose to be in one of three dynamic learning communities: Business, Fine and Performing Arts, or Engineering Science Mathematics/Agri-science.

Mr. Flowers is an avid boater and enjoys being outside. His other hobbies include home improvement, travel and reading a good book. His favorite authors are Florida based mystery writers and include: Randy Wayne White, James W. Hall, and Carl Hiaasen.
