Acceleration Academies provides academic and support services to students either at risk of not earning a high school diploma or wishing to return to school after a gap in their education.

Acceleration Academies understands that Graduation Candidates have other responsibilities that make obtaining a high school diploma appear impossible. Our academies have extended hours, Monday through Friday, so everyone is able to experience the unique and custom-designed learning environment offered. Attending an academy is essential to educational development, but because the learning platform is web-based, Graduation Candidates can work on courses anywhere with internet access.

Graduation Candidates are supported in every way, with access to highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals, as well as certified social workers and guidance counselors. At Acceleration Academies, Graduation Candidates can work in collaboration with peers, one-on-one with Content Coaches, or individually. Acceleration Academies utilizes the most engaging blended instruction and technologically enhanced content available rather than traditional instructional models. By mastering one course at a time through blended learning online and face-to-face instruction with a Content Coach, the Graduation Candidate is able to focus on the task at hand and master the content at their own pace.

Working with Career and Life Coaches, Graduation Candidates are able to develop a plan that aligns with their future interests and attend events such as career fairs, mock interviews, and presentations from local business leaders. Furthermore, Graduation Candidates are able to create a digital portfolio of their work and credentials for later employment and educational endeavors.

Through these various efforts, Acceleration Academies works to accomplish one goal: improve the lives of young people, their families, and their communities by providing an opportunity to earn a high school diploma.

Our Terminology

The Acceleration Academies staff is structured to provide wrap-around support for our Graduation Candidates, which allows for engaging learning environments and also provides the opportunity for personal growth. Each member has a specific role, but all work toward the goal of seeing our Graduation Candidates succeed.

Content Coaches are highly qualified state certified teachers in the subject areas of History, Math, Science, and English.  Content Coaches are available to our Graduation Candidates in individual or small group settings. They collaborate with other instructional staff to develop interdisciplinary and project based curricula and alternative assessments such as portfolios.

Executive Directors lead and manage all faculty and staff, keeping them strongly connected to the mission of Acceleration Academies. They create and maintain a positive school culture and lead the instructional vision of the Acceleration Academies program. The Director shall act as the Academy head as well as the liaison between Acceleration Academies, the school district, and the community and its organizations that can best assist in
Graduation Candidate success.

Career Coaches are certified guidance counselors who help our Graduation Candidates in developing individualized career plans, researching career paths, and finding job openings. Career Coaches identify specific skills required for employment and help Graduation Candidates obtain these skills, as well as assist them in job application and interview preparation processes.

Special Education Coaches work closely with designated Graduation Candidates and their families to monitor their progress and support the learner. Special Education Coaches assist with the development of individualized learning pathways and support plans with fellow staff.

Life Coaches are certified social workers who have proven track records of working successfully with youth facing challenges both in and outside the classroom.  Life Coaches work with Graduation Candidates to assess their academic and personal needs while working in conjunction with Content and Career Coaches to ensure Graduation Candidates are fully supported.

Graduation Candidate Advocates (GCA) serve as mentors to our Graduation Candidates and support them on their paths to earning their diplomas. GCA’s offer wrap-around services to encourage, promote success, and serve as teaching assistants when needed.
