Featured Graduation Candidate

De’Juan Troupe, Wake Acceleration Academy

Wake Acceleration Academies Graduation Candidate, De’Juan Troupe, is 19 years old and is from Newark, New Jersey, but recently moved to Raleigh with his mother last September. During his high school years, De’Juan was moving often and working to support his family, which unfortunately interrupted his education. Luckily, through basketball (his favorite sport), the wife of De’Juan’s coach, Miss Leon, told him about Acceleration Academies and invited him to come to Wake County and try working on his diploma. Thanks to Miss Leon’s recommendation, De’Juan has now been attending Acceleration Academies for 6 months and comes to the Academy daily to work on his courses.

De’Juan believes he has been able to be successful at Acceleration Academies because he can take one course at a time and has the opportunity to work 1:1 with his Content Coaches. In the conventional school setting, De’Juan often felt that he was trying to keep pace with his fellow classmates; but with Acceleration Academies, he only has to keep pace with himself and has the freedom to learn in the way that works best for him. Since enrolling in September, De’Juan has completed English 1, Earth Science, and is steadily working to complete Math 1! Recently, De’Juan and his fellow Graduation Candidate, Darci Thomas, had the opportunity to visit the North Carolina State House to meet with lawmakers and share their story and their experience at Acceleration Academies. Upon graduation, De’Juan will attend college. In the meantime, he will keep working hard on his courses, and with the constant support of Acceleration Academies staff, De’Juan will achieve his goals.

Thank you for sharing your story De’Juan!
