Kaylene Shomber joined the Acceleration Academy staff after a year of early retirement. Prior to her sabbatical, Kaylene spent 25 years working in the field of education. After earning her Microsoft Certification, Kaylene spent several years in various tech support roles, including two years as the Systems Administrator at a private school. Kaylene was instrumental in developing processes and procedures in support of the Registrar. The experience prompted her to apply for the Registrar position when it became available. She spent subsequent years as the Registrar of public, private and alternative schools. Kaylene’s other educational roles have included; Reading Specialist, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Tutor and a Paraprofessional for Developmentally Disabled students.
Favorite or most significant year in school and why: My most significant class in high school was Honors Senior English, where I was introduced to a wide range of literature and was encouraged to pursue writing.
Favorite book: My favorite book is Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, as my family spent a summer traveling across the West following the events in the book.
Favorite food: My favorite food is Thai, because of its combination of heat and flavor.
Real-world superpower: My real-world superpower would be, boundless compassion and understanding others.
