Bethel Acceleration Academy (BAA) staff had the pleasant surprise of reconnecting with one our earliest graduates when Alan Graham, 21, stopped by our academy. BAA staff originally recruited Alan to the program in 2014 after he had withdrawn from traditional school. Alan completed five courses at BAA and earned his diploma in February of 2015. Following his visit, BAA Executive Director Gin Hooks noted the maturation that she saw in Alan in comparing his demeanor as a Graduate to his time as a Graduation Candidate, “Alan was an incredibly quiet and reserved student from the time he first entered the program, but the young man who came in today was a completely different Alan. He was very engaging and vocal.”
Alan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation, where he currently serves as a member of the Air Force Security Forces, following in the footsteps of his proud father. He reflected during his visit, “I came to BAA to finish school and get a diploma so I could move on in life and get a career, which happened to be in the Air Force, I couldn’t have joined without my diploma.” Alan is currently stationed in North Dakota, but will transfer throughout his career as he helps defend air bases and provide missile security.
Alan was one of the first graduates from Bethel Acceleration Academy, and we could not be more proud of him as he moves forward in life. “Overall, I’ve learned that I am capable of a lot more than what I gave myself credit for,” says Alan. Ms. Hooks notes that Alan and the staff have plans for him to return to the site again and give a motivational speech to current GCs.
